"Vampire Diaries" actor Ian Somerhalder is done with acting.
In an E! News red carpet interview for his new documentary "Common Ground," Somerhalder opened up about leaving Hollywood behind. The documentary, which was released late last year, explores the benefits of regenerative agriculture with a star-studded cast.
Somerhalder, Laura Dern, Donald Glover, Jason Momoa, Rosario Dawson and Woody Harrelson all appear in the movie. Somerhalder spoke about leaving acting on the red carpet with his arm around his wife and actress Nikki Reed.
"I loved what I did for a really long time, but I don't miss any of it," Somerhalder said, seemingly confirming his exit from acting altogether. "I just did it for so long. We had an amazing run."

Somerhalder and Reed now live on a California farm, and both agreed that while life is good, the pair said they stay busy with business ventures. They married in 2015 and share daughter Bodhi, 6, and a 6-month old son they welcomed in July 2023.
The duo also starred separately in respective teen vampire dramas, "The Vampire Diaries" and the "Twilight" saga. Somerhalder starred as Damon Salvatore on "The Vampire Diaries" from 2009 to 2017 while Reed is best known as Rosalie Hale in 2008's "Twilight," "New Moon" a year later, 2010's "Eclipse" and "Breaking Dawn" Parts 1 and 2 in 2011 and 2012.
Ian Somerhalder among several stars who've stepped away from acting
Somerhalder isn't the only star who has ditched sets and stardom for a simpler life.
Beloved actress Cameron Diaz took a break from acting for an eight-year stretch due to lifestyle changes.
"When you’re doing something that you know and you’ve done well and you know how it works and it’s consumed your whole life for so long, it’s kind of a nice thing to kind of go, ‘You know what? Let me just step back for a second, take a look at what the whole picture looks like for me and what are the things that I could do better and be more engaged with that would make me feel more whole.’ And I did that," Diaz told CBS Mornings in July 2022.
Other stars such as Terrence Howard, Brendan Fraser and Lindsay Lohan have taken breaks from their acting work.
